Things To Know – And Love! – About Merrimack NH
One of the best things about living in New Hampshire is the option for a small-town New England lifestyle with access to urban centers and their culture, entertainment, and industry. But many of the state’s smaller communities have much to offer and be proud of in their own right. Take Merrimack, NH for example. . . .
There’s a lot of history in this town south of Manchester. It was first settled and claimed by Massachusetts in the late 17th century, before being incorporated as a territory of New Hampshire in the mid-1700s. One of our state’s signers of the Declaration of Independence, Matthew Thornton, lived in Merrimack and is buried here.
National companies make a home in Merrimack, giving the town an economic boost. All the cool gadgets and unique gifts from Brookstone are designed and manufactured at the popular retailer’s Merrimack headquarters. One of America’s most well-known brands, Anheuser-Busch, owns a Budweiser plant here. You can take a brewery tour and see the famous Clydesdale horses in the stables on the property. Fidelity Investments and international aerospace giant BAE Systems are two more large local employers.

If you enjoy the great outdoors and a close sense of community, there’s no shortage of ways to stay active and involved in Merrimack. Several parks in town are great places for recreation activities, such as swimming and hiking. The town also schedules several family-friendly events throughout the year, including the annual Fourth of July festivities and celebrations related to Halloween and other holidays.
One of the best-attended events is the Rotary Rock’n Ribfest held every June. It’s the official site for the New Hampshire state barbecue championship and a tasty way to give back. Proceeds support local non-profit organizations.
